Tradition-based visual theatre explores the cultural and social identity of the Võru community. The play which was conceived during a moment of improvisation centres around four important events in life: wedding, funeral, sheep-slaughter and moonshine making. Live music is used to add colour to the play.
“Tarmo Tagamets’s play opens up the mouths and minds of the Võru people. The play will most probably trigger endless arguing on whether things actually were the way they were shown or not, whether this or that was right, how things were done or were they done at all and there will be a new topic other than the soap operas or dance show guests to talk about with your co-workers or neighbours. People start to warm-heartedly reminiscent in Võru language on how pigs were slaughtered or manure was gathered in their homes. Even the characters themselves criticize each other: can the coffin ever be carried by two persons, can the dead be carried with its head in the front, why one should not play the music the departed liked, etc. After all, talking and arguing is a part of Võru culture. /---/ In the play by the Võru Theatre Studio, the world of the Võru people is brought to the stage in a playful manner with all its quirks and traditions, humour and sadness. It might seem sterile at first (bright white costumes) or even black-and-white (there are no other colours used), but at the same time it is simple and honest. /---/ Furthermore, the characters are played by actors who come from Võrumaa and who are part of the culture they represent on the stage.” (Mariko Faster, Sirp)
